Build Together, Play Together – Celebrating THPRD’s 70th Anniversary
This July, we’re joining communities across the country to celebrate Park & Recreation Month, and we’re especially proud to be doing so during THPRD’s 70th year of service—honoring the deep roots and lasting impact of parks and recreation in our community.
Since 1955, the people of our district have believed in the importance of having public parks, programs, and natural spaces that are open to all. What began with a vote to create THPRD has grown into a vibrant, community-driven park district that supports well-being, connection, and access to nature for thousands of people each day.
This year’s national theme, “Build Together, Play Together,” reflects what THPRD has always stood for—bringing people together, creating shared experiences, and helping communities grow stronger through recreation and belonging. Parks support physical and mental health, offer vital resources for youth and families, and protect the environment for future generations.
They are also where people of all ages, cultures, and backgrounds come together to learn from each other, find joy, and build lasting memories.
At THPRD, we are proud to serve one of the most diverse populations in Oregon. We recognize that creating truly inclusive spaces means listening, adapting, and continuing to remove barriers. Our goal is for everyone—especially our immigrant, LGBTQIA+, disabled, Black, Indigenous, Latine, Asian, and other community members who have historically been excluded—to feel safe, welcome, and like they belong in our parks, programs, and events.
As we continue celebrating our 70th year throughout 2025, we invite you to explore what your local parks mean to you.
Whether you’re joining a summer camp, hiking a trail, attending a concert in the park, walking your dog, or simply relaxing under a tree, we’re glad you’re here.
Let’s keep building. Let’s keep playing. And let’s keep making space for everyone.
