Disability Pride Month, observed every July, celebrates the accomplishments and contributions of people with disabilities. It raises awareness about their challenges, promotes inclusion, and advocates for disability rights. This month-long event encourages individuals to embrace their disabilities as sources of strength and diversity, fostering a society where everyone is valued and respected for their unique abilities.
The 2024 theme is “A World of Opportunities” – we’re celebrating people and working together to remove obstacles. Our goal is to build a community that’s committed to creating a world where everyone can do well and succeed. Join us in making a world where all kinds of people have the chance to thrive.
Observing Disability Pride Month can be done in various meaningful ways to show support, raise awareness, and promote inclusion. These are some suggestions:
• green is for sensory disabilities, including the blind, deaf, and deaf-blind communities;
• blue represents emotional and psychiatric disabilities;
• white stands for non-apparent and undiagnosed disabilities;
• gold is for neurodivergence;
• and red represents physical disabilities.
