THPRD Board Appoints 10 To District Advisory Committees
Following a recruitment process that netted 80 applications, well above normal, 10 community volunteers have been appointed to advisory committees of the Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District.
The THPRD Board approved the appointments at their regularly scheduled public meeting Tuesday night, April 10. Each person will serve a two-year term.
The 10 appointees join 17 existing committee members to fill out the park district’s three advisory committees. Each committee has nine positions.
According to Bruce Barbarasch, superintendent of Nature & Trails who also oversees THPRD advisory committees, park district staff made a concerted effort to recruit a broader cross-section of the community. In addition, the application form was streamlined to a short, online form that was available in English and Spanish. The result was a much higher-than-usual volume of applications.
“We’re definitely pleased with the response we received,” Barbarasch said. “The overall quality of applications was high and made selections difficult. We thank everyone who took the time to apply.”
Advisory committees serve as “eyes and ears” of the community, reporting to the board in their areas of responsibility and giving feedback or making recommendations for improvement as appropriate. Anyone who lives within THPRD boundaries is eligible to apply for an advisory committee seat.
Appointed to the Nature & Trails Committee was Sheri Wantland.
Added to the Parks & Facilities Committee were Ken Ratterree, Michael Riedel, Patricia Sheleny and Shannon Wilson.
New to the Programs & Events Committee are Owen Elkins, Shoshanna Lansberg, Theresa Mason, Rebecca Cambreleng and Jill Steltenpohl.
