Todd Duwe, a Beaverton resident with an extensive background in commercial construction management, has been appointed to the board of directors of the Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District. Duwe will fill Position No. 3, which has been vacant following a resignation in July.
Duwe’s professional life includes 20 years of project management experience in construction and general contracting. He is currently the VP of Business Development at Andersen Construction Company, Inc. In his industry, he is an advocate for Minority, Women, and Emerging Small Businesses (MWESB’s) and currently serves as a mentor in the Port of Portland’s Mentor Protégé Program to a minority/woman-owned subcontractor. Duwe also brings valuable community volunteer experience including the Beaverton School District Bond Accountability Committee, Meridian Park Medical Center Board of Trustees, Association of General Contractors Board of Directors, Westside Family YMCA Board of Directors, Architectural Foundation of Oregon Resource Committee, American Heart Association, and City of Beaverton Construction Dispute Resolution Committee.
Duwe was selected by the board of directors at their Special Meeting on September 6. The meeting, which was open to the public for viewing and testimony opportunities, included board interviews with Duwe and Heidi Edwards, two forerunners in a comprehensive process conducted last spring to fill another board position. “Both of these individuals were strong candidates and we were fortunate to have them in the process. We are excited the board is once again complete and looking forward to working with Todd on key community priorities,” said Ali Kavianian, board president.
The board’s decision to interview Duwe and Edwards for the open seat was based upon several key considerations: the constraints of Oregon law pursuant to filling vacancies on governing boards and the recent district-wide process that produced 26 candidates. Board President Kavianian added, “The decision to interview the top two forerunners was based upon our trust of the previous process used to identify competent board members, and a respect for the time and energy invested by these community members.”
Todd’s first public meeting with the board will be October 16. The appointment will continue until June 30, 2019. As required by Oregon law, a public election will be held May 2019 to determine who will serve the remainder of the open seat’s term, which expires June 30, 2021.
